Timber and sheet materials importer GE Robinson & Co Ltd has installed a new dust extraction system at its Salford sawmill as part of a £300,000 upgrade.
The company, which has a large timber treatment and secondary processing business, had environmental considerations high on the agenda when the improvement plans were scheduled. Also important was waste extraction and handling as the existing system was out of date.
Duncan Rossall, Robinson marketing manager, said: ‘We were faced with a situation where the extraction system we had before was old-fashioned and did not comply with legislation.’
The ageing cyclone-based extraction system was scrapped and replaced with a new Nordfab NFK 2000 6+1 chain filter system from Dust Control Systems (DCS) Ltd.
CombiFab reverse air regeneration fansets by Nordfab were installed by DCS in support.
The new system draws woodwaste from the base of the filter plant using an integral drag chain transport which discharges through a rotary valve designed for the handling of woodwaste.
The filter plant is of modular construction, allowing for future expansion by simply installing further filter chambers, hopper extensions, interconnecting ductwork and fan power.
Robinson’s upgrade also included two new Wadkin moulders and a new re–saw to increase capacity.
Bespoke moulding is a speciality of Robinson which imports redwood and whitewood from Scandinavia. It also manufactures architectural joinery, decking systems, flooring and weatherboarding.
