A Rochdale-based picture frame manufacturer has invested around £100,000 in SCM woodworking equipment to help meet growing demand for its products.
Iqbal Brothers’ investment in an SCM Superset planer/moulder and SCM automatic panel beam saw has allowed the company to make its own mouldings rather than buy them in.
The company, which trades as Royal Pictures and Perfect Moulding, bought the Sigma 120P Plus 45 beam saw to break down large MDF sheets into strips for feeding into the moulder.
The rear-loading Sigma processes stacks of MDF panels ranging in thickness from 15-32mm.
Iqbal Brothers’ Superset moulder is a six-head machine fitted with optional extras suitable for machining MDF. The head features a horizontal planer, fence side vertical head, near side vertical head, first top horizontal head, second top horizontal head and a bottom horizontal head.
All heads have independent motors of 10hp, with 15hp on the first top head, plus automatic braking.
The Superset can machine widths of 15-240mm, fed at heights of between 6-120mm, at a feed speed of 5-25m per minute.
