A County Antrim-based educational furniture manufacturer has moved to larger premises as a direct result of purchasing a CNC router.
Kindercraft says it had experienced a dramatic rise in productivity since acquiring an AXYZ 4008 router through Wolverhampton-based AXYZ Automation (UK). It has been able to take more orders for customised items which had to be refused in the past.
Kindercraft previously used conventional hand routers for 90% of the manufacturing, which proved time-consuming and did not give the required edge finish.
It is using the AXYZ router to cut veneered MDF and birch plywood into components which are then assembled into a diverse range of products including tables, chairs and child-sized furniture.
Steven McErlean, of Kindercraft, said: “It has enabled us to design in-house and produce items in a short period of time. We have also developed a range of self-assembly products that can be dismantled after each use – a valuable commodity in any classroom where storage space is limited.”
The 4008 machine has a processing area of 2590x1420mm. Prices for the AXYZ range of routers start at £14,800.
