Bespoke joinery company Lancaster & Tomkinson has invested in modern sanding technology to complement its traditional craftsmen operation.
The Newcastle-under-Lyme firm, which undertakes antiques restoration, cabinet making and shopfitting, spent about £15,000 on a Boere Merite 1000 C and a BMS Holland KS-200 edge sander to replace an older drum sander.
Both machines are being used for sanding solid wood components, veneered panels and other specialised items.
The Merite 1000 C wide-belt sander is a top working machine with a combi head, a working width of 1000mm and a height capacity of 150mm. The belt measures 1010x1900mm, while a 15hp motor caters for an infinitely variable feed speed of 4-15m/min as workpieces are introduced on a 300mm infeed roller table.
The BMS Holland machine has a belt width of 200mm and length of 3000mm. Its sanding unit is designed to tilt through 45?.
