Licom‘ s AlphaCAM programming software has been used in possibly its most unusual application to date.
Spanish machine tool company Bermaq used the software in conjunction with one of its 5-axis CNC machining centres to sculpt a ‘life-sized’ figure of Jesus Christ in just 20 hours. Bermaq said this was half the time it would have taken using other conventional technology.
The 1.9m high figure was machined from a laminated wooden block using a 20mm roughing tool, a 20mm bullnose cutter and 6mm finishing tool.
Ignacio Muino, head of Licom Systems‘ Spanish operations, said he hoped the project would pave the way for further joint initiatives with Bermaq to demonstrate the potential of the machine and software combination during the coming months.
