Finnish Forest Industries Federation communications director Marjatta Malmipohja and director Hannu Valtanen have each been made a Knight of the Order of the Lion of Finland. These awards, made by Finland’s president Tarja Halonen, are in recognition of their contributions to Finland’s forest industries.
Ms Malmipohja’s career in Finnish forest industries is long and varied. Since 1966, she has worked in international trade, market analysis, trade policy and communications.
Mr Valtanen is an expert in Finnish forest policy. Apart from working in the forest industries, Mr Valtanen has, during his 30 years career, worked in The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners and in Finland’s Embassy in Bonn as Counsellor, Forest and Environment. He is also one of the key people in creating and developing the Pan European Forest Certification system. At FIFF he is Director in charge of Natural Resources and Forest Policy.
