Production times have improved by up to 30% at the Ministry of Defence‘s defence storage and distribution centre at Donnington, Telford since the acquisition of a range of Makita pneumatic nailers.

The centre’s carpentry shop makes many types and sizes of timber containers for the tonnes of materials and equipment shipped to British military operations around the world.

As well as speeding up operations, the Makita nailers have dramatically reduced noise and eliminated the physical strain and HAV risks associated with using traditional hammer and nails.

Stephen Williams, of the MoD’s packaging managers’ department, said: “This is probably the most significant advance in production we have made in many years. In some instances we have seen a 50% reduction in manufacturing time by eliminating the clenching process and time taken to hammer the nails in. The Makita machines have proved totally reliable and the nails are first class.”
