German high-end woodworking machine maker Martin has launched a major sales offensive in emerging markets in the form of five new more cost-effective machines unveiled at Ligna.

Acknowledging that its range was too expensive for Brazil, China and India, Martin produced the new machines in close co-operation with an Italian manufacturer and expects to sell more than 200 units in the next 12 months.

The new T200 tilting arbor spindle moulder tilts 45° in both directions, like its bigger machines but is smaller and completely manual with no electronics, though a digital display is available. It will also be targeted at selected European markets, such as Greece and Romania.

Martin has also developed boring and tenoning machines for the first time.

The TD021 (21 spindle) and TD023 (23 spindle) line borers are aimed at cabinet production, as well as face frame joints and dowel boring, while the TM100 Slot Mortiser and dowel boring machine is for solid wood components. In contrast to other borers, the TM100’s table and workpiece is in a fixed position, with the drilling unit moving, allowing machining of larger workpieces such as staircase, window and façade construction.
