Masterwood was covering the bases at Ligna, with new CNC solid wood machining centres designed for all sizes and types of business.
“Traditionally CNC technology might have been considered the preserve of the bigger businesses, but we’re also getting growing interest from the smaller guys with, say four or five people in the workshop,” said Masterwood (UK) sales director Peter Walker.
For just such a business at the show, Masterwood had a new entry-level “baby”, the Project 416K. But while this may be a starter model, it still uses Masterwood’s own control system software which is featured in its bigger, more complex machines. “Something we’re really proud of is the fact that all our centres use our in-house designed software,” said Mr Walker. “That means in the event of a problem, the customer can go to one point of call for the solution. You don’t have a machinery and a software business passing the problem back and forth.”
Also on show was the Project 416/423 range which includes liquid-cooled electro spindles, for maintaining constant operating temperature, auto tool changing and the option of additional clamps that can be retro-fitted. The machine can be supplied with a working area up to 5.2m wide so that pieces, such as doors can be processed in tandem, one piece being loaded/unloaded while the other is machined.
Among the top-end machines on show was Masterwood’s 5-axis debut, the Atlas 5XL, complete with a digital read-out system for accurate positioning of the vacuum clamping cups.
