New Masterwood chisel mortisers are helping door manufacturer Arthur Oliver Ltd increase production efficiency.
Oliver, a member of the STP Group, replaced MAKA chisel mortisers with two Masterwood OMB3 four-headed machines.
Improvements include a seven minute reduction in set-up time for changing tools to a new size stile. Actual mortising time has been cut by half.
Peter King, an OMB3 machine operator, said the built-in rule for marking the position of the setting heads gave a more accurate, cleaner cut.
Masterwood UK managing director Russell Corlett said: ‘This application on door stiles is an example of how a traditional mortising machine can sometimes be more effective than a CNC machining centre for volume production.’
