A joint venture between Becker Acroma and Finnforest (UK) Ltd has led to the development of a water-based primer for MDF.
Finnforest production manager Stuart Clarke said: “We asked Becker to develop a primer with improved mould resistance properties to help us compete more effectively in the new-build market.
“MDF mouldings are a superb alternative to wood in many ways, They contain no knots or splits and because there is no grain, creating mitres is much easier.”
The Building Research Establishment was commissioned to independently test performance and this confirmed that the primed MDF mouldings satisfied the requirements of BS 3900 Pt G6: 1980, providing the same resistance to mould colonisation as softwood mouldings.
