The 60 people who attended the Midlands Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society Christmas lunch raised around £1,500 for the charity through ticket sales and a raffle for a selection of donated prizes.

Guest of honour at the lunch was TTBS president Barbara Cartwright. She thanked everyone for their contributions to the Society and said they were invaluable for its beneficiaries.

“Do you know the state pension for a married couple is just £160 a week, and if you’re single £109?” she said. “Some of our beneficiaries live on that without any other means. They rely on the Society for their little extras; for phone rental, the £100 Christmas cheque, the hampers and contribution to their winter fuel bill. And we can only provide all this with your support.”
