A new treatment service provider has been set up to service one of the UK’s main timber import hubs.
WJ Timber Treatments has invested more than £100,000 setting up the operation at the Port of Hull’s Alexandra Dock.
The company’s managing director Mark Eggleston, who has a background in the timber and joinery industry, said the business operated two high-pressure vacuum treatment tanks and a low-pressure vessel.
The high-pressure tanks will use Wolman’s Wolmanit CX10 inorganic copper and boron-based preservative, with one vessel concentrating on green and the other green and brown. The low-pressure service will use Wolman’s Wolsit water-based KD20 preservative.
WJ Timber Treatments is treating products across the hazard class range, from fence posts to hazard class four, to fencing panels, decking, trellis products, joists, TR26 and joinery components.
Mr Eggleston said he chose the Rix terminal at Hull due to it being a major centre for the timber trade and highlighted an opportunity for customers to have their timber treated after import instead of making an additional journey.
“We have spoken to a few of Rix’s existing customers and there is definite interest in using the dock as a timber treatment facility,” he said.
W J Timber Treatments is a diversification for Mr Eggleston’s WJ Components Ltd business, which makes roof trusses for the caravan industry.
