The installation of an advanced factory finished window manufacturing line at West Cumbrian joinery component maker New West Port Corporation Ltd has quadrupled capacity in its first four months of operation, the company says.

The line, part of a new £2m manufacturing plant, uses Glasurit waterborne coatings to meet high environmental and performance standards.

Window production is on machinery supplied by Selaschi, of Italy, while the finishing equipment was imported from Eisenmann in Germany.

Simon Bless of New West Port, said: ‘This is the first line of its kind in the UK. Being fully automated with robotic technology, production is continuous allowing us to produce fully factory finished windows to the highest standards for our customer base.’

Using coatings which are environmentally-friendly was an important factor for New West Port, which makes timber doors and windows. Its key customer base is the local authority market, where environmental responsibility is a critical factor in specification.

The coatings from Glasurit, part of the BASF Group and a member of the British Woodworking Federation (BWF), comply with legislation and meet the principles of the Egan Report and Kyoto.
