Tony Hugill, an apprentice with North Yorkshire Timber (NYT), has won the most improved apprentice award for the Leeds Building College machine woodworking course.

Now in the third and final year of a modern apprenticeship, Mr Hugill works in NYT’s storage and fabrication centre near Catterick as a wood machinist.

NYT mill operations manager Neil Brown said the company was very proud of Mr Hugill’s achievement. “He joined us as a yard labourer straight from school in 2001 and has continually worked hard. He really deserves this success,” he said.

NYT holds Investor in People accreditation and has a programme of staff development across all levels including training in customer service to NVQ, training for the Institute of Wood Science certificate and junior management training.
