Based in Wigan, Oregon-Canadian Europe Ltd imports, mills and distributes a range of clear softwoods, Scandinavian redwoods and whitewoods and high quality hardwoods.
OCE has enjoyed a long relationship with Wadkin. In 1999, in only its second year of operation, the company bought a new Wadkin XK220, before adding a second machine in late 2005.
Having provided around eight million lineal metres of service, the company decided to get Wadkin to carry out a complete remanufacture of the original XK machine – without any loss of production.
The XK was decommissioned, with a replacement machine installed over a weekend. It was then remanufactured over an eight-week period, before the two machines were again swapped over in what was a seamless operation.
Oregon-Canadian director Peter Burns said he was extremely happy with the whole process. “Wadkin instigated a number of modifications which mean the remanufactured machine is even better than the original. Throughout the whole eight weeks we never missed a step from a production point of view,” he said.
