Staff on the massive Weinig stand donned Formula-One pit-stop style overalls to highlight the rapid tool changing possible on the brand-new Unimat 2000 moulder.
The new machine is a lead-on development from the Unimat 3000 ‘Brillant’, aimed at the smaller timber processing operation. Called ‘Speed’, it costs around 40% less than its bigger brother, but shares many of its advanced features. The cutter blocks (left) run at 12,000rpm, which, says Weinig, means a high quality finish at high feed speeds.
The new model is also called the Speed because, like the Brillant, it features a rapid cutterblock change system. The blocks themselves are shorter than traditional designs and fit directly onto the machine drive rather than a spindle.
‘You can change the knives on the Brillant in just five minutes,’ said Michael Weinig (UK) sales manager Robert Henshelwood. ‘The Speed isn’t quite that quick, but you can still complete a change-over in 15 minutes, compared with half an hour, an hour or more on other moulders.’
