Specialist convertor of panel products S+C Timber has spent £395,000 on two new machines that are set to boost capacity by 33%.

The Leeds-based company has installed a new £145,000 Holzma HPL 33 saw and a SCM Ergon routing machine at £250,000 that will push output from the current 600 to 800 tonnes per week. The Holzma will join two already working at the company that are producing MDF, chipboard, hardboard and plywood components, while the SCM will join an existing SCM Ergon to router products.

S+C is experiencing buoyant demand from furniture manufacturers for its cut-to-size MDF and chipboard components and needs the extra output to meet demand.

Sales director Mark Plummer said: ‘The two Holzmas that we have already in place are working at full tilt, 24 hours a day, so we needed the extra machines to offer even greater flexibility to our customers.’

The new machines will be accommodated in S+C’s recently-enlarged 60,000ft2 factory.

They will feed byproducts into a Talbot waste incinerator which also provides heat.

The expansion of facilities has helped S+C secure full distributorship of melamine-faced products, OSB and chipboard from Krono-France.
