Family-owned timber merchant WG Powell has invested in a Striebig Standard vertical panel saw to meet demand for its growing cut-to-size service.
Despite intense competition from retail sheds and larger merchants, the Oxford-based business said it has maintained a loyal customer base among local tradesmen and DIY.
Director Paul Quarterman said the new saw replaced an ageing German-made wall saw that had become increasingly inaccurate. “We realised we had a problem when a couple of regular customers, both cabinet makers, took their panel cutting business elsewhere. The Striebig is simplicity itself and does the job far more easily and accurately. Within weeks we had regained the lost business and attracted more.”
The Standard TRK 6224 has a 5.3m-long bed for jumbo sheets and 80mm cutting depth that sizes sheets up to 30mm thick and rips timbers, laminated worktops and door blanks.
