Edging company SMC Wholesale has invested in a new glue coating machine as part of a £250,000 factory move.
The machine, which cost about £40,000, enables the Exeter-based company to boost glue coating production, especially for its high-selling 50m edging rolls.
SMC said the equipment reduces labour needs, speeds up roll changing and improves overall efficiency of the glue coating process.
Other investments at the company’s 600m2 Marsh Barton factory, which it moved into during September, include a Linde forklift, a stacker truck and racking.
Marketing manager Daniel Fletcher said the building has twice the level of space as the old site, which improves both the volume of stock stored and order picking efficiency.
He said: “We have seen a massive growth in our turnover of products sold by merchants.”
SMC, which specialises in melamine and wood veneer edging, has also launched a website at www.edging.co.uk.
