When energy efficient off-site housebuilding specialist Lindrick Eco Build was commissioned to build a new home where sustainable building materials were the clients’ order of the day, they turned to products from Norbord.
The resulting 400m2 new home overlooks Yorkshire Wildlife Park and includes views of the polar bear enclosure. It features solar panels, mechanical ventilation and renewable technology and has been built using only the very best sustainable materials, said Lindrick Eco Build.
The SterlingOSB Zero timber frame kit enabled the structure of the house to be developed off-site, while Norbord’s CaberDek chipboard flooring panels ensured that, thanks to its weather-resistant properties, which provide protection from dirt and rain for up to 42 days, construction on-site continued – even through bad weather.
“When it comes to building a house of a certain quality, you need products of the same quality to match that,” said Paul Scholey, business development director at Lindrick Eco Build.
“We know Norbord’s CaberDek works well, cuts nicely, fits together tightly and is easy to use. It was also important to us to use products with traceability. With Norbord’s SterlingOSB Zero and CaberDek, we know they are FSC certified and so were ideal for use in constructing a sustainable home. It was a win, win.”
Meanwhile, the Charlton branch of Jewson has created a new look by making new signs and displays using SterlingOSB Zero.
Jewson stakeholders wanted a material that was part of the existing product range and would also provide a new aesthetic, which would be in keeping with the look and feel of the branch.
SterlingOSB Zero has been used for product displays in the Charlton site while the signage band that encompasses the walls of the trade and showroom area and highlights the merchant’s product range and its location pulls the whole scheme together.
“SterlingOSB Zero was easy to use and it was also cost-effective compared to other materials on the market,” said Michael Fitzpatrick, project construction manager at Saint-Gobain. “My contractor fitted it on my behalf and it went up quickly without an issue, so we are now looking at using SterlingOSB Zero to create similar designs at some of Jewson’s other sites.”
