Besides its sawmill machines themselves, the company has focused recently on developing enclosure and cabin systems so that, in the words of sales director Kari Kiiskinen, its mills look like “an advanced industrial plant”.
A model on display at Ligna showed what a modern Heinola turnkey project would look like, with most of the processing plant encased in enclosures.
“This sort of plant is safer, provides better working conditions, greater efficiency and less environmental impact in terms of dust and noise,” said Mr Kiiskinen.
The Heinola approach clearly has worldwide appeal, with recent major projects undertaken in Russia (the €12 Svir mill) and Japan, with another bandmill for the latter scheduled to be completed next spring.
“In the UK the Soderhamns and EWD mill machinery brands are better known, and we’re not so active,” said Mr Kiiskinen. “But we’re definitely interested in getting more involved in the market.”
