An in-depth business valuation was the key factor in persuading a Middlesex joinery to invest in new technology.
The cost and high specification of a Viet widebelt sander seemed beyond the reach of Richard Becher of Becher Joinery, until Trymwood Machinery’s consultancy service provided a detailed analysis of the company’s work – costing time, labour and wastage and showing the machine would give a short payback on investment.
All sanding and finishing was previously done by hand but the Viet’s installation improved output, flexibility and quality.
The machine, which costs about £40,000, has three sanding heads with long belts for optimum cooling, cleaning, finish quality and belt life.
Its specification allows Becher to calibrate, sand, veneer sand and lacquer on the same machine.
The LCD control gives flexibility, allowing the operator to programme and record settings for individual heads according to the work involved.
