Wärtsilä Corporation has officially inaugurated its new assembly hall and logistics centre at the company’s facility in Vaasa, Finland.

The new developments will raise the manufacturing capacity of the Vaasa Delivery Centre according to Wärtsilä, with the size of the production area increasing by a third.

Wärtsilä manufactures a range of power solutions, including bio energy plants using wood fuel.

The investment has been undertaken alongside a revamp of the production line in order to improve material handling and the quality, flow and efficiency of operations.

“The new facilities will allow us to increase production deliveries and provide us with a significantly higher quality way of manufacturing our products,” said Juha Kytölä, president of Wärtsilä’s Finnish operations.

The inauguration of the factory coincided with the announcement of Wärtsilä’s Technology & Innovation Award 2007, with three teams from the Finnish Research & Development unit in Vaasa claiming the prize.
