Woodworking tool manufacturer Carbide (UK) Ltd is now able to run a 24-hour unattended saw blade grinding operation following its latest addition of Walter machinery.
The company, based in Kingston-upon-Hull, replaced two older machines with a Woodtronic CNC 5D grinder and Loader from Walter GB They have joined two Walter Helitronic tool grinders already in the workshops.
Steve Weymes, director of woodworking at Carbide, said the machine was capable of grinding more teeth geometries than previously, while its cutting oil and filtration system had virtually eliminated downtime for cleaning.
The three-pallet 120-blade capacity Loader was instrumental in the purchasing decision as it allowed Carbide to run a continuous operation, despite having to process blades ranging from 100-600mm in diameter and varying batch numbers.
Mr Weymes said the company was considering the addition of further machines in the future. Buoyant business has already meant the recent recruiting of two sales representatives in the north-east and Scotland.
