The Woodworking Machinery Suppliers Association (WMSA) is considering a new injection of money into training projects for members.
The WMSA’s recent commercial group meeting at Homag UK Ltd reported that healthy finances, including a reserve of £250,000 unallocated funding, means projects can be taken forward.
Ideas suggested include the offering of grants to encourage members to invest in training, particularly health and safety.
Kelvin Wilkins, managing director of Homag UK Ltd, stressed the importance of selling, with a proposal for the WMSA to campaign within the industry for customer training to promote more responsibility and professionalism. He also mooted the need for refresher courses for companies about 12-18 months after buying a machine.
Suggestions will be put to the WMSA’s board of management for discussion.
