Sun shines for TTBS golf day

10 August 2013

The TTBS’s national golf day at the Northumberland Golf Club was a huge success.

The July 5 TTBS National Golf event was played in glorious summer weather and on the exceptional Northumberland Golf Club course at High Gosforth Park, with main sponsor MH Southern & Co Ltd hosting the event in its centenary year.

MH Southern was supported by Gold sponsors NHG Timber Ltd, Lonza Wood Protection and Gill & Robinson Ltd.

On-course afternoon refreshments were sponsored by Taylormade Timber Products Ltd, the 'nearest the pin' award was sponsored by the BSW Timber Group, which also provided the starters' packs and the 'longest drive' was sponsored by Stora Enso Timber UK Ltd.

The individual hole sponsors were Setra Sales UK Ltd, Fibercill, North Yorkshire Timber Co Ltd, Moelven Timber, SCA Timber Supply Ltd, Canada Wood UK, Danzer UK Ltd, Price & Pierce Forest Products Ltd, Siljan Timber AB, Roger Mitchell (UK) Ltd, Freight Logistics Ltd, Vapo Timber, Taylormade Timber, John Hood, Timbmet and CP Timber.

The event consisted of a morning 18-hole Greensomes competition and the afternoon 18-hole individual Stableford competition, which were followed by dinner in the Northumberland clubhouse. Here, the winners received the magnificent silver TTBS national trophies, some of which date back to 1938. Special guests at the dinner were senior TTBS trustee Ian North, and MH Southern sales director and TTBS national vice-president Robert Bruce.

The dinner and presentations were followed by a raffle, with prizes generously provided by Timber Expo, W Howard Ltd, Rowlinson Timber Ltd, MH Southern, Freight Logistics, Caledonian Plywood, Bridgeport Forest Products Ltd, TTBS general manager Ivan Savage and Gill & Robinson. The raffle raised £670 for TTBS central funds.

On the previous evening, MH Southern also hosted a putting competition and supper at the Northumberland, which was well supported by the golfers staying overnight for the main event and numerous MH Southern guests.

"The national golf event has once again proved to be extremely popular and has been hugely supported by MH Southern and all its generous sub-sponsors," said Mr Savage.

"James Southern has given a considerable amount of his most valuable personal time to ensure that the event was well organised and has been hands-on throughout the planning and over the two days.

"The TTBS and I are most grateful to him and all the supporting companies for their contribution in helping us to achieve another very successful national event."
