Access flooring installers without an NFQ or SVQ have been warned that they only have until October 31 to apply for their blue or gold Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) blue or gold card.
In 2001 fitters without formal qualifications were given two years to apply for their cards, which they can use with employers and customers as evidence of competence and for ID. Under an industry accreditation route, the CSCS has issued the cards on the basis of a reference from an employer vouching for their skills levels. They must also pass a construction health and safety test.
After October 31, the cards will only be issued to floorers with an NVQ or SVQ, with non-renewable temporary versions issued to those working towards qualifications.
