Modified wood product Accoya has been used to create balconies at a Berkeley Homes development in Snodland, Kent, after receiving backing from TRADA.
Accoya was chosen for the Holborough Valley project as it provided the required durability and performance, acording to BSW Timber.
BSW, which owns the sole right to distribute Accoya in the UK, said that its suitability for use in balconies and elevated decks had been underlined by research published by TRADA.
This tested the material’s performance against National House Building Council standards and led TRADA to state that “suitably strength graded Accoya wood can produce a 60-year service life for cantilevered solid timber joist balconies”.
“The Berkeley Homes deal is further proof that Accoya is an ideal product for elevated balconies and is the way forward in the production of external joinery products,” said John Alexander head of business development at BSW.
“The two critical qualities of Accoya are its reliability and stability, which makes it ideal for a wide range of exterior applications.”
