The US-based National Wood Flooring Association is attempting to “clear the air” on environmental issues relating to use of real wood flooring.

The group, made up of more than 2,900 wood flooring professionals, says despite popular belief the nation’s commercial forests were in much better shape than in the 1960s.

It says for every one tree cut in the 486 million acres of commercial forest, five more are planted.

The organisation also argues that wood flooring is a recyclable option and promotes a healthier living environment, citing an Environmental Protection Agency study which says the material does not contain allergens or harmful pesticides brought in from outdoors.
