AHEC sponsored and co-ordinated the American hardwood pavilion at the show in conjunction with the Hardwood States Export Group.

Happy Whitlock of AHEC said: “AHEC felt the time is now right to encourage much greater contact between US exporters and the India hardwood trade, and the levels of enquiries and interest generated throughout the show confrim this.

“The pavilion is just another stage in the American hardwood promotion programme AHEC started in India over a year ago, which will continue to develop momentum as it targets traders, manufacturers and architects in all regions of India.”

Meanwhile, more than 200 representatives of the Indian wood trade and industry attended the two lumber grading workshops.

David Venables, AHEC’s director for Europe and India, introduced the American hardwood species to workshop participants.

He said: “If a good hardwood business is to be developed between the US and India, then lumber will play a key role and an understanding of the grades will certainly help strong buyer/seller relationships to develop for the long term benefit of the market.”
