Modular Building Automation (MBA) sees a strong future for small to medium-sized timber frame manufacturers in the UK and they are the target for its new Mobi-One assembly system for wooden walls.
MBA, a joint venture between JJ Smith and H&M Houtberwerkingsystemen of the Netherlands, has developed the new production technology for companies with limited space and output targets averaging 150-250 houses per year.
“We think there will be a growing number of this sort of business as the timber frame market grows more diverse,” said JJ Smith managing director Martin Smith on the company’s stand in Ecobuild’s Timber Works section.”The Mobi-One can produce a wall panel up to 12m long and 300mm thick in just 15m of working space and is designed to be operated by one person.”
Starting at £99,000 , the new machine can download panel drawings from design software systems, accurately position for placing of wall frame components, nail the frame and nail or staple cladding and trim sheet materials. It can also rout out window and door openings, pull over a breather paper and position and nail batons. Turnover tables to flip the panels and idle roller outfeed tables can also be supplied.
“We already have systems working in France and Holland, and are now keen to introduce it to the UK,” said Mr Smith.
