Seven leading US softwoods suppliers will be at the Timber Expo show on the stand of the American Softwoods (AMSO) promotional organisation.
New programme director Charles Trevor said the presence of McShan Lumber, Bridgeport Forest Products, FTI America, Cox Industries, Atlas Trading International, Klausner Trading USA and Sunset Moulding formed part of the relaunch of AMSO’s marketing push into the UK and Europe and underlined the US softwood sector’s confidence in its export prospects.
“The show is a springboard for our relanched campaign and a great opportunity to make contacts and highlight the versatility of American softwoods, which are sufficiently distinct from Nordic species, we believe, to generate significant new interest,” said Mr Trevor.
Probably the best known US species in Europe is southern yellow pine, used extensively in treated form for decking and other outdoor products. But AMSO is also highlighting the availability of other species, from Douglas fir and hemlock to eastern white pine and other fir species.
The US softwood industry, added Mr Trevor, has become increasingly export-oriented recently and in the first quarter its overseas sales were 70% ahead of the same period last year.
Also on the AMSO stand will be the Moulding and Millwork Producers Association.
Timber Expo takes place at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on September 27 and 28.
