The building industry is being asked to dig deep into its pockets to help a young design graduate paralysed from a fall on a London building site.
It is also being urged to ensure that health and safety regulations are stringently implemented to prevent similar accidents.
The injured man is Broderick Hart, son of David Hart, sales director at Prestoplan.
His family has set up the Brod Hart Trust which aims to raise £50,000 to help Broderick, who was injured in June when he fell 2.7m through an unprotected stairwell, rebuild his life.
Broderick is already trying to use his accident to help others. David Hart said: ‘Young people working on building sites should not be put in a position where they take unnecessary risks. We urge contractors to improve safety standards on building sites and spare other workers from tragic accidents like Broderick’s.’
That aim is backed by the Timber & Brick Information Council which is helping publicise the campaign.
A website www.brodharttrust.com will open on October 1 to extend awareness. Anyone wanting to make a donation can contact David Hart on 07778 999 137.
