Never ones to back away from a challenge, a 13-strong team from Arch Timber Protection took part in the 2009 Tree-Athlon – a 5km run featuring 300 contestants, held at Temple Newsam in Leeds on September 27.

The Arch team was racing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Tanalith E wood preservative in the UK, and also promote the benefit of trees in the urban landscape through the event charity, Trees for Cities.

Suitably attired in their celebration t-shirts and race numbers, the team has collectively raised close to £1,000 for Trees for Cities.

Arch marketing executive Richard Spooner won the race, with an excellent time of 18:08 – a decent lead ahead of the second place runner. Noteworthy performances also included those from purchasing manager Bev Clark, who was second in the women’s race, and Vicky Flowers, QA administrator, whose training regime paid dividends to see her cross the line in 29:55.
