Architects and engineers were urged to put forward their entries for the Wood Awards at the launch for this year’s competition in London.
A full house of around 175 (also including other building professionals and local authority representatives) attended the event in the Building Centre. It was co-hosted by the organisers of the Wood Talks series of seminars and comprised presentations on two previous Wood Awards Gold prize winners, the Weald and Downland Museum and Savill Garden, by key figures involved with the buildings.
Rupert Scott, marketing manager of Awards sponsor TRADA, introduced the event with an appeal to the audience to enter their own projects.
“If you’re involved with a building you think would be a contender for one or more of the categories, go to www.woodawards.com and fill in the entry form,” he said.
He added that the Awards have a furniture category, as well as those for the use of wood in various structural and interiors building applications, and also highlighted that the competition has waived its entry fee this year.
“We decided we just wanted to get in as many entries as possible,” he said.
