The company has been forced to vacate its FJ Reeves Timber World site at Tyne Dock, South Shields as the Port of Tyne needs the site for an extension to its container facility.
The new Riverside Sawmills development on the former Dent Steel site will eventually create 30 jobs. The company’s 50 existing staff will transfer to the new depot.
Softwoods, hardwoods, sheet materials, joinery products, laminates, worktops, building products, hardware and decking will all be housed under one roof at the new site which will also include a showroom for the company’s Accent Kitchens UK range.
Arnold Laver has spent more than £1.5m refurbishing the site and installing a mill to provide bespoke timber machining with fast turnaround times. There is also a treatment plant.
“The development of Riverside Sawmills is a major landmark in Arnold Laver’s long history and this new investment at Hebburn will bring major regeneration benefits to the area,” said group managing director Andrew Laver.
