A former Austrian sawmilling magnate has launched a E300,000 European award for timber innovations.
Gerald Schweighofer has introduced the biennial ‘Schweighofer Prize’ in recognition of the increasing economic relevance of wood due to the trend towards environmentally-friendly materials.
The award has three categories – forestry, wood technology and timber products – each with a E50,000 award, and an overall prize worth E150,000. Prizes will be awarded for innovative ideas that make an optimised supply of high quality wood possible and add value.
The first winners will be announced in June 2003.
