Joinery manufacturer George Barnsdale has completed a £1.4m contract to supply doors and windows to a prestigious London refurbishment project.
The company supplied a total of 865 replica sliding sash windows, balcony and sliding doors for the £120m redevelopment of The Lancasters, a 130m Grade II listed terrace which overlooks Kensington Gardens.
The order required 200m3 of redwood, 2,500m2 of glass and 3,000 litres of paint.
Barnsdale said it was selected for the project because of its track record in blending new technology with heritage design which enabled it “to meet planning requirements to recreate the sash windows and balcony doors, with no compromise on technical performance”.
The products were all prefinished in Barnsdale’s new robotised paint plant, which uses automotive finishing techniques and is claimed to be the first of its kind in the UK.
All the timber for the windows and doors is FSC certified, with frames constructed from redwood WoodHeart timber, which is X-ray selected. Door sashes were made from engineered red grandis.
