Net profits for the German-based chemicals company were down 24% to €613m, while sales grew by 28% to €13.3bn.

The quarter represented the 13th straight quarter in which BASF has increased sales.

BASF said strong demand for its high-value products and system solutions had continued unabated from the first half of 2006.

The company’s performance products division recorded a 41% sales growth and an 11% rise in operating profit before special items.

BASF expects sales to reach more than €50bn for the full year.

The company’s operations include supplying pigments for paints and MDF, resins for wood coatings, dispersions for decorative paints, raw materials for parquet floor adhesives, Dr Wolman timber preservatives and chemicals for wood glues.
