A task force has been appointed to help reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries in British Columbia’s forest sector.
The Workers’ Compensation Board, whose chairman Douglas Enns will lead the task force, says that one in every 13 forestry workers were injured or killed during 2001 and 28 deaths were reported. But the injury rate has been falling since 1997.
About 90,000 people are directly employed in the industry.
