The British Columbia provincial government plans to pour another C$50m into its Forest Revitalisation Fund to help workers affected by recent forestry legislation.
Provincial premier Gordon Campbell announced the increase from C$75m to C$125m at the annual meeting of the Truck Loggers Association.
The fund, started in 2003, is intended to help forestry workers affected by the government’s decision to re-allocate 20% of timber harvesting rights from major companies to First Nations, smaller firms and communities.
