To update its image and better explain its function, the Timber Trades Benevolent Society (TTBS) is holding a competition to find a new title and/or logo.
TTBS general manager Malcolm Job said that research had shown that many, even within the trade and its supporting industries, did not know enough about the TTBS or its work.
He said: “One of the problems seems to be that our title means different things to different people. The words ‘benevolent society’ can seem old fashioned and do not, in this day and age, convey who we are and what we do. Our logo does not help in explaining our role either.”
Mr Job said the society needed to attract more subscribers and donors as well as get its message across to potential beneficiaries.

A registered charity, the TTBS looks after those who have been employed in the timber trade. As well as regular benefits to people, such as quarterly cash payments and the payment of TV licences, it can assist with the replacement of one-off items such as washing machines or equipment for the disabled.
The TTBS is putting up a £100 prize for the competition which is open to all. Entrants are asked to redesign the title and/or logo in either black and white, single colour or full colour.
