The potential market for solid softwood flooring in the UK could be as high as 4.7million m² a year, according to the Nordic First Flooring Workshop last week.
The event, held after the promotional campaign’s business meeting at the NEC, covered the prospects for growing flooring sales, plus presentations from a range of Nordic flooring manufacturers.
‘The European market for smooth flooring generally is growing very rapidly and should reach US$14.4bn by 2005,’ said Nordic Timber Council senior project manager Sanna Myrtinnen. ‘Within that, timber flooring is increasing strongly, with solid softwood having particularly good prospects in the repair and maintenance sector. We believe the UK annual market potential is 30m² per dwelling.’
Manufacturers Siljan, Pölkky Oy, Norlida Golv and flooring timber supplier SCA highlighted the diversity of softwood products available and discussed installation, finishing and maintenance.
