The Forestry Commission‘s efforts to expand use of biofuels has won it an environmental prize at the Scottish Green Energy Awards.

The commission picked up the award at the event organised by industry forum Scottish Renewables at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh.

Richard Earle, commission sustainability project officer, said: “We have worked hard for many years to reduce our environmental impact, and 2005 has seen a major push to develop and expand our use of alternative and carbon neutral road fuels such as biodiesel, wood fuel heating systems and small scale renewables.”

The awards are designed to highlight the achievements of individuals, companies and organisations in the renewables field, which are making a significant difference to Scotland’s green energy production.
