Construction work on E.On UK’s £90m plant, which will consume 220,000 tonnes of wood fuel a year, started in January and all major foundations are expected to be completed by July.
The project, which received £18m National Lottery funding, will help create 40 jobs directly and around 300 jobs indirectly. It will generate electricity for around 70,000 homes.
Wood fuel will mainly come from forest products’ sector residue, while Renewable Fuels Ltd will also be supplying plantation willow.
The first wood burning will not take place until June 2007, with the plant expected to be fully operational by late 2007.
