The picturesque beach at Birling Gap, East Sussex has been closed for five days while contractors clear timber washed ashore from the sunken cargo ship Ice Prince.
John Gallop, Wealden District Council’s head of environment protection, said a crane was used to help remove planks during the operation.
Some of the planks had been smashed by the waves, while others had been pushed into the shingle.
Mr Gallop said he was relieved that the wood would be gone well before the start of the Easter holidays.
Wealden, together with other coastal local authorities, has been working with contractors to prioritise the clearance along the south coast.
