Blainslie Sawmill, a supplier of fencing materials to the contracting sector, has embarked on the latest stage of a six-figure development programme.
More than £50,000 is being spent on concreting the firm’s premises near Lauder in the Scottish borders in a move that will free up extra space on the greenfield site.
According to owner Scott Riddell, longer term plans for the mill include the introduction of a modern saw line.
Nearly £500,000 has been spent on the sawmill over the past five years – including the installation of a second-hand saw line, a secondary resawing line and cross-cut equipment – and the intention is maintain investment at around £60,000-70,000 a year, said Mr Riddell.
