BLP UK Ltd, one of the country’s largest manufacturers of wrapped MDF mouldings and cabinet doors, has gone into administration.
Lyn Vardy and David Ian Green of PricewaterhouseCoopers have been appointed joint administrators of BLP, which also supplies membrane pressed cabinet doors, veeners (overlaid with melamine) and flexible panels.
The administrators said BLP had suffered significant losses as a result of the housing downturn and slowdown in consumer home improvements spending. The loss of a key account with B&Q is also thought to be a contributing factor.
BLP employs about 100 people at its 25,000m² factory in Kirk Sandall, Doncaster.
Administrators will continue to trade the business while a buyer is sought. Staffing levels are being reviewed but the majority of employees are expected to be kept on in the short term.
“It is clearly very disappointing that the company has been placed into insolvency proceedings, particularly for the employees,” said Mr Vardy. “It is indicative of the pressures being faced by the housing and home improvement market which is now beginning to impact on its suppliers.”
