New Zealand company Blue Mountain Lumber blamed the economic slowdown for its decision to more than halve the workforce at its Otago timber mill.
The mill, at Conical Hill near Tapanui and owned by Winstone Pulp International, itself a subsidiary of Ernslaw One, has cut 65 jobs from a total of 110, citing “long-standing challenges” as a major factor.
Blue Mountain is the single biggest producer of Douglas fir timber in the South Island, producing 45,000m³ under the Oregonz brand.
